Posts tagged still an awful movie

I’m reading the SAIT Students’ Association’s Twitter feed to find information for an upcoming show and I came across the above from awhile back (in case you’re confused and/or too lazy to go to the Twitpic link, it’s basically a menu sign describing bubble tea as “derishus”). Three things:
When your excuse for propagating racism is that it comes from Team America, then I dunno, seinfeld dot gif. What more is there to say in regards to this point, that I want to ship people who use excuses like this to a deserted island off the coast of I don’t care, just get away from me and the rest of civilized society?
Okay, white people. Listen up. Most POC don’t care if what you said was meant as a joke or not, what’s offensive is offensive. To put it another way, WE DON’T CARE ABOUT INTENT. To put it one last way, why are you making the joke? Is it to sell bubble tea? Not a good idea in this instance! Not a good idea in 99.999% of instances, in fact.
Good job to the SAIT Students’ Association for taking almost a month to reply to tweets which questioned the racist signage on your campus! You guys clearly value an inclusive environment for the students you supposedly represent.
…and 2012, the year when every kind of awful -ism just seems just so much more apparent than any other year I’ve been alive, rolls on. In case you were wondering, I didn’t find the information I was looking for. However, I did find shitty excuses for racist signage, that which contains 100% of my recommended outrage dosage. Always a good thing.
